    Network Purpose and Values
The US End FGM/C Network aims to eliminate FGM/C by connecting, supporting, elevating and advocating with diverse US stakeholders engaged in prevention, education and care.

The U.S. End FGM/C Network’s core values are:

    1.    Deep Collaboration. We engage in thoughtful processes so that all voices are heard and are part of our dialogue.
    2.    Respect. We respect one another’s diverse experiences, ensuring that we honor rather than harm those we serve.
    3.    Diversity/ Inclusion. We are an inclusive organization that supports diverse members across many dimensions—experiences, ethnicity, services and sectors, and geography. We value grassroots organizations and commit to elevating their voices and empowering their work.
    4.    Tolerance. We believe in approaching ending FGM/C and differing opinions with understanding, empathy, and sensitivity to prevent discrimination, targeting, blame, and shaming of individuals or communities
    5.    Broad Framing. We recognize that FGM/C is a violation of human rights which raises interconnected issues relating to health and gender equality. We seek to frame the issue broadly enough to support lasting change.
    6.    Action Engagement. We believe that members should ensure that sufficient time and resources are devoted to the goal of ending FGM/C.
    7.    Survivor-Centered. We are deeply committed to listening to and building on the wisdom of survivors of FGM/C.

    Joining the Network
Membership (individual/organization) is free and is open to FGM/C survivors based in the U.S. as well as individuals and organizations that work on the issue of FGM/C in the United States and are aligned with and committed to supporting the Network’s values. Members are eligible to vote in Network elections, participate in listservs, working groups and discussion groups, serve on the Steering Committee, and attend member-only events. Organizations may have multiple members within the Network and shall appoint one voting representative for the organization.

International membership (individual/organization) is also free and is open to FGM/C survivors who are not based in the U.S., as well as individuals and organizations who are engaged in working on the issue of FGM/C outside the United States. International members must be aligned with and committed to supporting the Network’s values. International members may participate in member listservs, working groups and discussion groups, and attend member-only events.

Prospective members are encouraged to identify how they might contribute to the work of the Network. All members are also invited to participate in the Network Working Groups, which include, but are not limited to:
    1)    Survivor Working Group
    2)    Legal Working Group
    3)    Health Care Working Group
    4)    Policy/Advocacy Working Group
    5)    Strategic Communication Working Group

Alignment with the Network’s values is critical. For example, organizations that tie the FGM/C issue to an anti-immigration or religious discrimination agenda are not appropriate members of the Network. Members may become ineligible for membership if they take actions or reflect views in the future that are not aligned with Network values. Members who become ineligible will receive written notice of a proposed termination at least ten (10) days in advance of the proposed action and given a chance to appeal.

To become an individual or organization member of the Network, please send a completed application to info@endfgmnetwork.org with the subject line “Join the Network.”

We look forward to having you on board.

    Thank you!
