The power of personal storytelling in ending female genital mutilation/cutting- Washington, DC

November 11 @ 3:00 pm 5:00 pm

In May 2018, Sahiyo and StoryCenter embarked on a journey to use personal storytelling as a way to build a critical mass of voices from within FGM/C-practicing communities, calling for the abandonment of this harmful practice. Since then, Sahiyo and StoryCenter have hosted four digital storytelling workshops, and the resulting digital story collection, Voices to End FGM/C, has been shared online, through media publications, and in various online screenings and events.

Now, Sahiyo & StoryCenter invite you to view these digital stories and learn about best practices in digital storytelling about female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) on November 11th.

The event comes on the heels of Sahiyo’s Voices to End FGM/C Workshop hosted in Washington, D.C., on November 8-10th, with StoryCenter and The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. The November workshop focuses on health and FGM/C, bringing together survivors and health providers in the United States who have provided services to women who have undergone FGM/C.

At the November 11th event, we will discuss the Voices to End FGM/C workshop with local participants, and explore how Sahiyo uses storytelling as an effective method for advocating against FGM/C.

If you would like to attend this November 11th event, RSVP by filling out this form by Sunday, Nov 10th, 2019
