At An Empowering Evening to End Gender-Based Violence we’ll hear from human rights leaders and activists including: singer and radio host Jearlyn Steele who will be our emcee introducing a fantastic lineup of speakers, including the 19th Poet Laureate of the United States, Natasha Trethewey, author of Memorial Drive, a memoir of gender-based violence. We are also honored to introduce two of our local and international partners Amirthini Keefe from the Domestic Abuse Project in Minneapolis, and Eleni Fotou from VIA-STOP in Greece, and our Executive Director Cheryl Thomas. Music will be performed by vocalists Diane Davis and Timothy Thomas, with special guest Shahin Lahooti and pianist Mary Louise Knutson.

Global Rights for Women is an international leader in ending violence against women and girls through legal reform and systemic change. Since our founding in 2014, we have worked in 30+ countries at the request of over 60 international partners, and have trained over 1,000 legal professionals. Recently we worked in Haiti, Bahamas, Thailand, Vietnam, Moldova, Fiji, Georgia, Ethiopia, Gabon, Mongolia, Australia, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and locally in Minneapolis.
