Opinion: CT needs to ban female genital mutilation/cutting
More InformationDescription
An op-ed that urges legislators in the state of Connecticut to introduce a bill to end FGM/C. Connecticut ranks 26th in the nation for at-risk populations and is one of only 9 states without a law banning the harmful practice. Cultural sensitivities, misconceptions, and political challenges have all played a role in delaying progress. With support from the CT Coalition to End FGM/C, Mariya Taher describes the progress that the state has made through community education and outreach, coalition building, and support from the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, and Equity, Governor Ned Lamont, and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz.
