In a recent webinar titled OVC Addressing FGM/C: Empowered Narratives – Reflections on Survivor Listening Sessions, The U.S. End FGM/C Network shared key insights from their upcoming report, Empowered Narrative: Reflections from Survivor Listening Sessions. The webinar featured heartfelt stories and reflections from survivors, bringing to light the lived experiences of women who have undergone FGM/C. By centering the voices of these women, the session highlighted the importance of listening to survivors as a critical step in addressing FGM/C and shaping policies that prioritize their healing. The insights from the listening sessions will serve as a roadmap for stronger, more effective responses to end FGM/C both nationally and globally.

The discussion also delved into the need for trauma-informed approaches when supporting survivors. Speakers emphasized that understanding the nuanced, emotional, and cultural dynamics of FGM/C is essential for creating pathways to recovery and advocacy. The listening sessions offered a safe space for survivors to share their experiences, reflect on their healing journeys, and provide feedback on what resources they need to thrive. The report is designed to inform policymakers, service providers, and advocates on the gaps that still exist in providing adequate support and ensuring long-term change in the movement to end this practice.

As The U.S. End FGM/C Network prepares to launch this report, the webinar underscored a commitment to survivor-centered advocacy. By amplifying survivor narratives and taking actionable steps based on their feedback, the Network aims to foster a future where survivors are empowered to lead efforts in their communities, and where FGM/C is no longer a reality for future generations.
